BOSS Announces CUBE Street II Battery Powered Amplifier

BOSS announced CUBE Street II, a battery powered stereo amplifier for mobile music performers and anyone who needs high-quality sound on the go. Evolved from the best-selling Roland CUBE Street – and newly rebranded with the BOSS name – the compact CUBE Street II features two input channels for mics and instruments, onboard effects, looper, and harmony functions, and more.

The amplifier also includes support for the optional BOSS Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor (BT-DUAL), a new product that allows users to wirelessly stream backing tracks and control CUBE Street II functions with a dedicated app for iOS and Android mobile devices.

First introduced in 2007, the groundbreaking Roland CUBE Street was an instant hit among mobile musicians. Offering a high-quality, battery-powered sound solution for street gigs and other intimate performing situations, it quickly became a mainstay in the busking world and continues to be used daily by performers everywhere.

In 2014, the series expanded with the CUBE Street EX, a more powerful and feature-rich model for larger audiences. Starting with the CUBE Street II, all newly developed products in the CUBE Street series will carry the BOSS brand name.

CUBE Street II is even lighter and more durable than its predecessor, thanks to a modern ABS injection-molded cabinet design. The output has also been doubled, providing 10 total watts of loud and clean stereo sound to cut through street traffic, train arrivals, and other noise challenges on the gig. In quieter situations, users can engage Eco mode to reduce the power and extend battery life.

With two ultra-versatile input channels, CUBE Street II supports all types of musicians and performers. The Mic/Instrument channel features a combo act for either an XLR balanced mic or an instrument such as a keyboard or Roland’s Aerophone. Equipped with a standard 1/4 inch jack, the Guitar/Mic channel provides plug-and-play sound for guitarists with seven acoustic and electric amp types, as well as settings for a line-level instrument or unbalanced mic.

CUBE Street II also includes many great features to take performance to the next level. Each channel provides three-band EQ and reverb, and there’s a chorus/delay effect on the Guitar/Mic channel. An automatic harmony function allows users to create impressive vocal harmonies based on the guitar chords they play or a preset key, and there’s also a built-in looper for creating backing tracks on the spot.

Roland Announced GO:MIXER PRO-X Audio Mixer for Smartphones

Roland announced GO:MIXER PRO-X, the latest member of the popular GO:MIXER family of audio mixers for smartphones and tablets. Ultra-compact and filled with audio connectivity, GO:MIXER products allow mobile content creators to capture multiple sound sources in high quality for music videos, livestreams, podcasts and more.

Compared with the previous GO:MIXER PRO model, GO:MIXER PRO-X offers expanded support for Android and iOS mobile devices, a guitar/bass input pad switch, and the ability to use a headset mic or the inline mic on smartphone earbuds as a sound source.

Today’s smartphones and tablets record great video, but their built-in microphones simply can’t deliver the sound quality needed to create polished productions that grab viewers and keep them engaged. GO:MIXER PRO-X is the ultimate companion for mobile content creation, combining multi-channel mixing, sound monitoring, and more in an affordable, palm-sized hardware device that goes everywhere.

GO:MIXER PRO-X supports the audio needs of all types of creators, whether working alone or with a group. Users can connect and mix up to seven audio sources, including a professional XLR microphone, guitar, or bass, a stereo instrument like a keyboard or drum machine, and two stereo line-level devices.

The headphones jack supports an additional mic feed, and the Loop Back function allows music and other audio from a connected mobile device to be mixed in as well. A newly added pad switch for the dedicated guitar/bass input lets users attenuate the signal if needed for instruments with active pickups.

GO:MIXER PRO-X is equipped with both USB Micro-B and four pile TRRS analog jacks, providing plug-and-play operation with most iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Three different cable types are included for connecting to Lightning, USB-C, and four pole TRRS jacks on mobile devices. GO:MIXER PRO-X can be powered with four AAA-size batteries or through device connection when the USB Micro-B connector is used.

In addition to providing exceptional sound quality for videos and livestreams, GO:MIXER PRO-X excels as an audio interface for music apps like Roland Zenbeats or GarageBand, and it also works great as a portable standalone mixer for practicing and performing.

Casio Released the PX-S2200 Digital Piano

Casio America, Inc., the world’s leading provider of powerful and affordable musical instruments, announced the release of the PX-S1100, the latest addition to the award winning Privia PX-S series of digital pianos.

The PX-S1100 replaces the PX-S1000, which has become one of the top-selling digital pianos on the market today and earned its reputation for sound and features that punch far above its price class. The new model retains its stylish design in the world’s slimmest body while offering an inviting keyboard touch and stunningly realistic piano sound, making it the ideal instrument for the home, recording studio or stage.

Compact Size and Minimalist Elegant Design

The new PX-S1100 makes the most of Casio’s advanced technology with a sophisticated design and boasting the world’s slimmest depth. The svelte, contemporary design complements the interior of any home and makes the most of rooms with limited space. With gold accents and three color variations – black, white, and red – the PX-S1100 has a minimalist, elegant and clean appearance, featuring a mirror-like, flat control panel. All settings are handled by touch buttons that disappear when the piano is powered off. What’s more, the PX-S1100 boasts the simplest interface in the Privia family.

Authentic Piano Sound and Feel

Despite its slim profile, the feel of the PX-S1100 duplicates a grand piano with a weighted action that is subtly heavier in the lower range and becomes lighter as the player ascends the keyboard. Improved string resonance reproduces the complex harmonics of an acoustic piano. Upgraded speakers and speaker positioning give the PX-S1100 a warmer tone than ever, and the multi-dimensional morphing AiR Sound Source provides a sense of ambience, localization, and clarity. This advanced sound engine reflects changes in volume and timbre, allowing users to move from gentle and delicate playing to dynamic and powerful performances, all with ultimate musical expressiveness.

Connectivity, Either Wired or Wireless

Connected features of the PX-S1100 stand above its competitors, as the included WU-BT10 adapter adds Bluetooth MIDI and audio capabilities, allowing users to connect wirelessly to compatible Bluetooth devices and transform the piano itself into a Bluetooth speaker. This revolutionary upgrade provides self-learning and music production opportunities, as users can play along with their favorite songs and hear everything through the Privia’s high-fidelity speakers.

Plus, the dedicated Chordana Play for Piano app opens a whole world of control and education features, letting players control all functions of the piano from a tablet (connected via Bluetooth or a USB cable) and providing real-time lessons that make learning music more engaging.

The PX-S1100 will be available for purchase in September at Music retailers nationwide and at CasioMusicGear, com.

BOSS Announces HM-2W Heavy Metal Pedal

BOSS announced the HM-2W Heavy Metal, the latest in the growing lineup of Waza Craft pedals that recreate classic BOSS designs with detailed craftsmanship, premium components, and extended features. Based on the HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal from the 1980s, the HM-2W delivers the true analog sound of the original in all its glory, coupled with numerous modern refinements for enhanced performance.

Produced from 1983 to 1991, the BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal is a legend in the history of distortion pedals. Its signature “chainsaw tone” with all knobs maxed is the defining voice of Swedish death metal music, and the slightly milder sides of its personality can be heard on tracks from mainstream to shoegaze.

Over time, the pedal’s uniquely aggressive sound and focused midrange have become highly sought after by players around the world. After years of requests from hardcore HM-2 fans, BOSS is pleased to reintroduce the iconic stops three decades later in special Waza Craft edition.

Like all WAZA Craft models, the HM-2W features selectable modes for different sounds. BOSS engineers have also added audio performance improvements without affecting the original tone, including reducing the noise floor and expanding the maximum level by 3 dB. The HM-2W features a premium Waza Craft buffer as well, providing improved sound when the pedal is bypassed.

When the HM-2W is in Standard mode, the tone and response of the original HM-2 pedal is reproduced with 100-percent authenticity. Cranking every knob all the way up delivers the genuine sound of Swedish death metal, and users can conjure a wide range of tones for other styles with the sensitive distortion and color controls.

The HM-2W’s Custom mode offers a similar sound character to Standard mode, but with just a little more of everything. The drive state has more gain and includes more of the fundamental guitar sound for extra attack and sharpness. In addition, the low and high-mid characteristics have been tweaked for increased fullness and definition.

Along with the vintage HM-2 sound, BOSS has captured the original pedal’s distinctive orange and black appearance, right down to the size and position of lettering on the panel. And while the mode switch on most Waza Craft pedals is positioned on the face, it’s been moved to the top of the HM-2W to preserve the layout from the HM-2.

Yamaha Adds ST2110-30 Support to RIVAGE PM

Yamaha regularly updates its software to improve user convenience and to provide high-quality, user-friendly functions. At the same time, Dante networking has been adopted in a wide range of professional audio systems with its flexibility and efficiency, contributing greatly the improvement of connectivity between devices. With the latest firmware update of the RIVAGE PM series digital mixing system, SMPTE ST2110-30 is now supported in combination with standard Dante functions.

SMPTE ST2110-30 is a set of standards for Media Over IP that is rapidly expanding in the professional broadcast market, and ST2110-30 defines the audio part of these. RIVAGE PM Series, which has already been adopted by many broadcast stations, includes optional Dante modules that each support up to 144 audio channels in and out.

In combination with Audinate’s Dante Domain Manager software package, these modules are now able to operate in “SMPTE mode”. In this way, simultaneous compatibility between ST2110-30 devices and all regular Dante devices is not only maintained, but system setup is simplified and security enhanced. Together with the CL/QL series digital mixers and R series I/O racks, the RIVAGE PM series expands the user’s options and contributes to the construction of a more flexible and comprehensive system.

Furthermore, RIVAGE PM systems allow multiple networks to be bridged, with each DSP engine hosting up to 4 audio networking HY cards. The HY144-D-SRC card provides sample-rate conversion, allowing additional connectivity options. For example, the system could interface between a standard Dante system running at 96kHz for a live performance, and a broadcast ST2110 network operating in a separate clock domain at 48kHz.

“We are very pleased to announce that the RIVAGE PM Series now supports SMPTE ST2110-30,” comments Chihaya “Chick” Hirai, Yamaha General Manager of the PA Marketing & Sales Department, “We are confident that this update will greatly contribute to the customers who are looking for systems with enhanced flexibility as well as those who are converting their existing systems into IP-based ones.”

Yamaha will continue to listen to the opinions of their customers, and work to provide more flexible systems and comfortable mixing environments.
