BOSS Announces DS-1W Distortion

BOSS announces the DS-1W Distortion, the latest addition to the acclaimed Waza Craft family of premium compact pedals. Based on the legendary DS-1 Distortion, the DS-1W fuses the look and character of the standard pedal with two modes and a newly revised discrete analog circuit for more range and versatility.

Introduced in 1978 among the earliest models in the BOSS compact series, the DS-1 redefined the sound of distortion and remains as influential today as ever. Its hard-edged attack and smooth sustain of distortion and remains as influential today as ever. Its hard-edged attack and smooth sustain have made it the best-selling compact effect, with over 1.5 million units sold to date. The iconic orange stomp is behind the signature sounds of a long list of rock, alternative, and fusion legends, and its aggressive tone can be heard on countless famous tracks. Filled with artful Waza Craft refinements, the DS-1W expands the DS-1 experience for a broader range of styles and applications.

Standard mode on the DS-1W delivers the authentic sound of the original in every way. Its innovative two-stage gain circuit is a critical part of the fullness and definition that so many guitarists love about the DS-1. The versatile tone control affects low and high frequencies, simultaneously boosting and cutting each end of the frequency spectrum as the knob is turned. This allows players to dial in the sound for any application, from sharp rhythms and searing solos to maintaining low-end clarity when boosting amps and other drive pedals.

The DS-1W’s Custom mode introduces a bold new voice that takes the unmistakable DS-1 character to the next dimension. A thick, mid-focused tone provides more fatness and cut to stand out in the mix, and the tone control is tuned to maximize the mode’s richness and presence. The available level has been increased by 6dB, providing a wider range of gain boost for driving amps and pedals. And with more input sensitivity, players can conjure up all sorts of distortion colors with picking dynamics and volume control adjustments on the guitar.

Like all Waza Craft models, the DS-1W features a premium buffer for clean and clear tone when bypassed and comes with the standard compact series five-year warranty.

DEATH BY AUDIO Introduces SPACE BENDER Pedal

The SPACE BENDER chorus modulator replicates and warps your signal into beautiful and organic transmissions from a dimension somewhere beyond linear time.

Under the hood lies an array of dynamically modulated delay lines allowing you to craft subtle vintage sci-fi sounds, bending sonic bedlam, and pulsing atmospheres. Never again will you say this chorus pedal just isn’t intense enough!

These in combination with the rocker switch settings let you move smoothly through a wide range of effects types allowing for new ways of thinking and experimenting with modulated delay, chorus, and flanger. Stretch and pull your sound waves to craft glassy bell resonances, massive reverse dive bombs, and seasick demon drones with a simple (but deep) interface.

The spectrum of living, breathing sound manipulations stowed within the SPACE BENDER serves as an interstellar gateway for the next wave of musicians to create a universe of haunting and unexplored soundscapes. See you on the other side!

CONTROLS

Speed: Controls the speed of the LFO, sensitivity of the ENVelope, and time of the delay(s). At shorter times, expect flange and chorus sounds with slower modulation, while long times will stretch into wiggling, modulated delay.

Depth: Controls the depth of the Envelope or the LFO, as well as the feedback of the delay(s). This allows for a range of short and subtle effects to longer, stretching waves of sound.

Delay Time: Sets the overall delay time range, from very short (x1) to medium-long (x10). Also inverts the polarity of the ENVelope.

Modulator: Sets the main source of modulation for the delay line – either a sine wave oscillator in LFO mode or an envelope in ENV mode. The SPEED and DEPTH knobs control the settings of the LFO and ENVelope.

Intensity: Sets the overall intensity of the effects. High-intensity settings can create oscillations, feedback, and crazy noises. DEATH BY AUDIO is not responsible for what your audience will think of you, unless they love it, in which case we are.

Gain (internal): Controls the output level of the pedal, ranging from unity to way too loud. Unscrew the backplate to access this control.

SPECIFICATIONS

Dimensions: 5” x 2.63” x 2.45” (including hardware)

Weight: 9.3 oz.

Power: 9V DC (runs on standard 2.1 mm negative center 9V DC adapter).

Current Draw: 65 mA.

The SPACE BENDER is $270.00 (or 4 interest-free payments of $67.50 with afterpay).

Panasonic Introduces LUMIX S F1.8 (S-S18) For LUMIX S Series

Panasonic is pleased to introduce a new large-aperture ultra wide fixed focal length lens, the LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 (S-S18), as the fifth addition to the series of F1.8 large-aperture lenses based on the L-Mount system standard. The large-aperture LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 (S-S18) boasts high optical performance passing the quality standard of professional use despite its compact size.

Ultra-wide 18mm perspective provides versatile ways of use at different shooting distances. In a long-shot, it captures more foreground or background elements to deliver a dynamic impression into the image. It is possible to add artistic expression to the foreground subject using rich perspective by shooting from a short distance.

A total of five F1.8 fixed focal length lenses from the LUMIX S Series including the 85mm (S-S85), 50mm (S-550), and 35mm (S-S35), 24mm (S-S24) and the new 18mm (S-S18) lens feature a common size and potion of control parts to provide practical advantages in use. The center of gravity of these lenses is almost the same so that it is easy to exchange lenses quickly with minimum balance adjustment with the camera is on a gimbal. Common filters can also be used thanks to the same diameter.

Covering virtually any framing and composition, use of these LUMIX S F1.8 fixed focal length lenses will suffice for filmmaking with minimum workflow and post-production process.

The LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 is comprised of thirteen lens elements in twelve groups including three aspherical lenses, three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses, one UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index) lens. The use of three aspherical lenses realizes both high and descriptive performance and beautiful bokeh, which are common advantages to the series of all F1.8 lenses. The three ED lenses effectively suppress chromatic aberration. It is suitable for versatile situations including landscapes, astrophotography and architecture photography taking advantage of the ultra wide angle of view. It can also be used for close-up shots thanks to the minimum focusing distance of 0.18m.

The LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 is capable of smooth, silent operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system with the sensor drive at max.240fps. For the non-linear setting, focus is shifted with a variable amount according to the rotation speed of the focus ring while focus is shifted with a designated amount according to the rotational quantum of the focus ring for the linear setting. Sensitivity (the amount of focus shift per rotational quantum) can be selected from 90 to 360 degrees by 30 degrees to enable intended focus operation.

The LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which was a fatal problem of all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography. Together with a micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure change, professional quality video can be recorded.

While its approximately 12-ounce compact size and light weight, the LUMIX S 18mm F1.8 features stunning mobility to fit the S5 LUMIX’s smallest full-frame model. The rugged dust/splash-resistant design withstands use under harsh conditions even at 14 degrees Fahrenheit for high mobility. The filter diameter is 67 mm, with a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm.

Panasonic and L-Mount system alliance is committed to the development of L-Mount lenses for the further expansion of its lineup to fulfill the needs of customers.
