New Teradek COLR Products Let You Fine Tune the Image

Teradek logoWorking with different cameras in different environments can be a real challenge for video producers. There’s no way to know for sure if the camera you’ve got is the right one for the job until you’re on scene. And by then, it might be too late to get the optimal shot. Teradek is hoping to make this problem a thing of the past with its new line of COLR devices.

COLR is a real-time LUT box, camera control bridge, and HDMI/SDI cross-converter in one tiny package. COLR integrates with Pomfort LiveGrade Pro, allowing DITs and colorists to give everyone the right look. There are a total of three products in the COLR line. The first is the COLR Lite and it boasts these features:

  • Perfect for GoPros or DSLRs/Mirrorless cameras, COLR Lite offers real-time color grading with 3D LUTs and a CDL or 1D LUT.
  • HDMI in / 3G-SDI out.
  • USB port for Camera Control and auxiliary power.
  • 802.11ac WiFi.

Next up is the COLR Duo:

  • All the functionality of the original COLR with a second 3G-SDI output, allowing a unique 33-point 3D LUT and CDL or 1D LUT to be applied to each output.
  • 3G-SDI in / 2x 3G-SDI out.
  • Gigabit Ethernet and USB ports for Camera Control and auxiliary power.
    802.11ac WiFi.

And finally the COLR Pro:

  • The world’s first 4K real-time color grading system. Support for two simultaneous 12G-SDI inputs and up to four 12G-SDI outputs, with 2 independently applied 33-point 3D LUTs with a CDL or 1D LUT. Designed to be mounted in a rack or on a DIT cart.
  • 2x 12G-SDI + HDMI in / 4x 12G-SDI + HDMI out.
  • Gigabit Ethernet for network connectivity.

COLR pricing begins at $1190. Teradek will have demo units available at booth C6025 during NAB Show 2016 in Las Vegas.

Teradek Introduces Sphere at NAB 2016

Teradek SphereTeradek manufactures wireless video devices for remote video capture, camera control, real-time monitoring, color correction, and webcasting. All Teradek products are designed and manufactured in the USA. Teradek has introduced Sphere at NAB 2016.

Sphere is a groundbreaking solution for monitoring and streaming live 360° content to iOS devices and the web. It is a whole new workflow for 360° video productions.

Only slightly larger than an Apple TV, Sphere’s hardware interface offers 4 HDMI inputs and streams 4K video (4x1080p) at up to an incredible 10 Mbps with just 4 frames of latency. When daisy-chained to a second unit, Sphere can support up to 8 cameras at once.

Its companion iOS application introduces the world’s first real-time 360° stitching engine with patent-pending dynamic picture adjustment, ensuring white balance, tint, exposure, and lens distortion are consistent across the panoramic image.

Sphere’s hardware interface features four HDMI inputs and a built-in H.264 encoder that can encode up to 10Mbps, providing a realistic 360°-video experience. When connected via Ethernet to a wireless access point, Sphere streams in real-time to Apple laptops and iOS devices where users can record or view the live 4K (4x1080p) content in three different ways:

Perspective Mode – Maneuver your iOS device in any direction to explore your 360°-video content as it is being shot. As you move your iOS device, the camera feed moves with it, showing you footage from any angle in which you point your tablet or smartphone:

Panoramic Mode – Pan and zoom across all 4 videos feeds stitched together into a panorama.

Headset Mode – Experience your live 360° content as it was intended for your audience.

For remote viewing, the Sphere app can be used to live stream to any compatible 360° online video platform, including Wowza and YouTube.

Sphere will ship in June of 2016 at a price of $3,000. Visit Teradek and see Sphere on display at booth C6025 at NAB 2016.

Teradek logoIf you face any kind of challenge in terms of your video production rig/workflow, Teradek probably has a product or two that’ll help you out.

Topher Delancy from Teradek came by to chat with Don Baine and show off some cool devices. First up was the VidiU Mini which is a streaming video encoder that can work with a GoPro camera or any other HDMI video source. Next up was the VidiU Pro which is a versatile encoder that can bond multiple Internet connections (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB) into one big pipe to maximize remote connections. Last but not least, Topher talked about Teradek’s full-featured iPad video production suite that can be used to overlay text, graphics, chromakey, titles and more onto live video from multiple cameras, then send that video to any major CDN.
