Panasonic Develops the LUMIX GH6 Micro Four Thirds Mirrorless Camera



Panasonic logoPanasonic is proud to announce the development of the LUMIX GH6 that combines the new Micro Four Trends sensor and a new image processor. This flagship camera of the LUMIX 6 Series will be commercialized for its release to world markets by the end of 2021.

After establishing the LUMIX brand in 2001, Panasonic introduced the world’s first digital single lens mirrorless camera in 2008. Since then, it has produced a host of innovative cameras and interchangeable lenses by taking advantage of the outstanding mobility and high video performance which are unique to the mirrorless camera system. These cameras and lenses were originally used for photography but have also been used for film creation. After 20 years of innovative contributions to the imaging culture, LUMIX cameras and lenses have earned a solid reputation with a wide range of users, including professional photographers and film creators.

As the next milestone in the evolution of the legacy of LUMIX cameras, Panasonic is proud to announce that the development of the LUMIX GH6 is underway. The flagship of the LUMIX 6 Series is the latest model of the GH line, it is renowned for its stunning mobility and innovative video performance. Combining the high-speed sensor and Venus Engine image processor, the new GH6 realizes next-generation video expression.

Providing 4:2:2 10-bit DCI 4K/60p recording capability 2, the LUMIX GH6 achieves unlimited video recording when the camera is used under the certified operating temperature. It is reliable enough to record continuous footage for a desired duration. It also provides a 10-bit 4K 120p High Frame Rate (HFR) and Variable Frame Rate (VFR) for high resolution slow/quick motion video.

Moreover, the GH6 records 10-bit 5.7K 60p video by taking full advantage of the newly developed Micro Four Thirds sensor. Accommodating a variety of recording modes and assist functions, the GH6 enables photo/video hybrid-use for various purposes including films, music videos, documentaries and short clips for social media to meet the creators’ needs. The GH6 will retail for approximately $2500.

In addition to the camera, the new interchangeable lens will be added to expand the G Series lineup, and the LEICA DG 25-50mm F1.7 is also under development. It covers from 10mm to 50mm (35mm camera equivalent:20 – 100mm) together with the LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 10-25mm / F1.7 ASPH which is currently available and has been met with high acclaim. These two lenses have common aperture, high descriptive performance, shape and operability so that it is easy to make the creator’s own unique image using these two lenses with minimal workflow.

While the LUMIX G Series based on the Micro Four Thirds standard boasts high mobility, the LUMIX S Series offers high descriptive performance made possible with the full-frame sensor. With these two series, Panasonic demonstrates its commitment to further providing maximum product value as a tool for users to unleash their creativity and challenge the ever-changing photo/video culture in the digital era.


Panasonic Introduced LUMIX GH5M2 Digital Mirrorless Camera



Designed with creators in mind, Panasonic is proud to introduce its newest digital mirrorless camera, the LUMIX GH5M2, featuring outstanding video performance for all film creators. The next high-performance product in the evolution of the GH5m the LUMIX GH5M2 achieves C4K / 4K 60p 4:2:0 10 bit internal recording. With the pre-installed V-Log L, it is easy to match the color tone with the footage in V-Log of S1H/S1 and V-Log L of GH5/GH5S.

The 20.3-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor with Anti-Reflective (A.R.) coating clearly captures details and drives the maximum performance of the lens. The image processor is also updated from that GH5 by adopting the latest Venus Engine that boasts high speed and performance.

Building on the exceptional performance and legacy of the GH5, the GH5M2 puts more creative power in the hands of filmmakers and videographers, equipping them with high quality video, high basic performance to meet various production sites, wire-optional live streaming, the high LUMIX standard of reliability and wide expandability.

The LUMIX GH5M2 is capable of unlimited video recording in various settings, reflective of the LUMIX GH Series’ notoriously outstanding video performance for professional videography. In addition, the GH5M2 can record C4K / 4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit as well as produce simultaneous output of 4:2:2 10-bit over HDMI during 4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit internal recording. Because it realizes a crop factor of 1.0x in 4K 60p by using whole area of the sensor, the user can record video in the original viewing angle of the lens.

A V-Log L is pre-installed in the camera to deliver a high dynamic range and broad colors, eliminating the need to purchase a Software Upgrade Key separately. V-Log L renders a very flat image while maintaining the entire range of color information within the image, resulting in a greater level of play when the images are put through post-production processes. V-Log L has log curve characteristics similar to negative film.

Users can download 35 conversion LUTs for VariCam cinema cameras for free for use in the LUMIX GH5M2. Color tone is easily matched with the footage recorded in V-Log of S1H/S1 and V-Log L of GH5/GH5S. Practical tools like a Waveform Monitor and V-Log L View Assist was available.

Following the S1H, the video flagship camera of the S Series, the LUMIX GH5M2 provides types of Cinelike gamma presets in the Photo Style. With these modes, impressive looks with warm skin tones or delicate nuances of light and shadow can be reproduced even without color grading over V-Log footage. The Cinelike D2 gives priority to dynamic range and the Cinelike V2 prioritizes contrast. MonochromeS and L. ClassicNeo have also been added. All these modes can be used for Anamorphic video recording.


Panasonic Introduced New Interchangable Telephoto Zoom Lens



Panasonic is proud to introduce a new interchangeable telephoto zoom lens, the LUMIX 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. [S-R70300], based on the L-Mount system, for the LUMIX S Series Full-Frame Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera. Built with professional photographers in mind, the LUMIX-S Series pursues uncompromising photographic expression with its high-quality cameras and lenses.

The new LUMIX S 70-300mm boasts high descriptive performance and beautiful bokeh throughout the entire zoom range, which create exceptionally impressive photo and video. It also provides high-speed, high-precision AF and Dual Image Stabilizer [IS] for use in a wide-range of situations including sports, animals, portraits and vehicles.

Adopting the state-of-the-art optical technology, the optimum alignment of the 17 lens elements in 11 groups, including one ultra extra-low dispersion [UED] lens, two extra-low dispersion [ED] lenses and one ultra-high refractive index [UHR] lens, effectively suppresses axial chromatic aberration at tele-end, and chromatic aberration of magnification at wide-end. Specifically, the UHR lens achieves uniform image quality from the center to the edges of the image, while contributing to an overall smaller configuration of the lens unit.

With an outstanding minimum focusing distance of 0.54m, the LUMIX 70-300mm achieves maximum magnification of 0.5x [at 300mm] realizing half life-size macro photography and videography. Circular aperture with an 11-bladed iris diaphragm provides beautifully rounded bone for unfocused lights.

Combining the Optical Image Stabilizer [OIS] in the lens and the Body IS in the LUMIX S Series camera, the Dual IS system powerfully compensates for the handshake in telephoto shooting, making it possible to use a 5.5-stop slower shutter speed. The focus control with a maximum 480 fps high-speed sensor drive realizes fast, high-precision AF.

Despite being a telephoto zoom lens with macro capability, the LUMIX 70,300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. is compact and light weight for stunning mobility. The rugged, dust/splash-resistant design withstands use under harsh conditions even at 14° / -10° C.

In addition, the fluorine coating on the front element repels water and oil. The filter diameter is 77mm.

The LUMIX 70-300mm, like all LUMIX S Series lenses, excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that minimizes focus breathing, a fatal problem in all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography. Furthermore, focus shift is suppressed during zooming with an exceptional zoom tracking performance, with the subject always in sharp focus. As a result, the new lens meets the exceptionally high standards required to achieve professional-grade video footage.

The LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.-5.6 MACRO O.I.S [S-R70300] will be available at valued channel partners in April for $1249.99 MSRP.


Panasonic Introduced LUMIX 85mm Lens



Panasonic introduced a new large-aperture medium-telephoto fixed focal-length lens, the LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 (S-S85) that enhances portrait photography with its beautiful bokeh effect.

Based on the L-Mount system for the LUMIX S Series full-frame mirrorless camera, Panasonic is going to release four F1.8 large-aperture lenses as previously announced, and this 85mm F1.8 is the first one.

These four F1.8 lenses feature common size and position of control parts to provide practical advantage in use, for example, when the camera is on a gimbal, it is easy to exchange lenses quickly with minimum adjustment of connected gears.

Filters can also be used in common thanks to the same diameter. Boasting high mobility realized by its compact size and light weight, the LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 is also suitable for stills.

Comprising 9 elements in 8 groups, the use of 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses effectively suppresses both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification. Panasonic S series lenses even pursue the beauty of bokeh and the LUMIX S 85mm F1.8 provides a smooth defocus graduation from the focus peak to the neighboring area of the image as well as smooth, round bokeh of point light without vignetting.

The LUMIX 85mm F1.8 also excels in video recording performance with a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which was a critical problem of all interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography.

With its compact, approximately 355g of light weight, the LUMIX 85mm F1.8 features stunning mobility. The rugged dust/splash-resistant design with stands use under harsh conditions even at 10 degrees below zero for high mobility. The filter diameter is 67 mm, with a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm.

In additional to the four F1.8 large-aperture lenses, a 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens is also under development to further enhance LUMIX S Series lens lineup. Panasonic and L-Mount system alliance are committed to the development of L-Mount lenses for the further expansion of its lineup to fulfill the needs of the customers.


Panasonic Announced the LUMIX Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera



Panasonic announced the release of the brand’s first box-style LUMIX Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera DC-BGH1. Based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the new LUMIX BGH1 takes advantage of high-mobility, an extensive interchangeable lens lineup, and even includes technologies Panasonic has acquired through the development of professional cinema cameras, camcorders, and the LUMIX GH series.

Against a background of increasing streaming opportunities in addition to traditional broadcasting, Panasonic offers the LUMIX BGH1, an easy-to-install camera with high expandability allowing multi-camera control. It can be used in a variety of ways from shooting on drones to IP remote control to live streaming and more.

The LUMIX BGH1 is a compact, light-weight box-style camera. Its body is composed of aluminum and magnesium alloy to ensure durability and light weight. The LUMIX BGH1 has a new heat dispersion structure to achieve unlimited video recording. It offers Power over Ethernet + (PoE+), simplifying installations by providing power, signal and control over ethernet.

Control over a maximum of 12 LUMIX BGH1 cameras is available from the Panasonic LUMIX Tether for Multicam application. A future firmware update will support IP streaming over wired ethernet [RTP/RTSP].

The included ethernet port or the USB 3.1 Type-C, 3G-SDI and HDMI Type-A terminals can all be used for simultaneous output. Genlock IN and Timecode IN/Out functions simplify multi-angle synchronized video recording and integrate into a scalable system with external monitors, rigs and gimbals supplied from other manufacturers.

The LUMIX BGH1 is equipped with Dual UHS-11 SD Card slots for backup recording or relay recording.

The LUMIX BGH1 will be available at valued channel partners in December for $1,999.99.


Panasonic Announced the LUMIX S5 Hybrid Mirrorless Camera



Panasonic announced the new LUMIX S5, a new hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera that achieves both excellent performance in photo/video and stunning mobility for serious photographers and videographers.

At the heart of the camera, the LUMIX S5 contains a 24.2-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor that boasts a wide dynamic range and sensitivity performance. The LUMIX S5 further realizes recording maximum ISO 51,200 crystal-clear high sensitivity video with the adoption of the Dual Native ISO technology.

As a pioneer of photo/video hybrid mirrorless cameras, LUMIX has the largest lineup of cameras that record 4K 10-bit video. As the latest member of the family, the LUMIX S5 is capable of 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit internal recording. It is also capable of 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 bit HDMI output. For 4K 30p 4:2:0 8-bit internal recording, there is no time limit.

Panasonic’s exceptional heat dispersion technology delivers stable, long-time video recording. The LUMIX S5 provides 14+ stops of dynamic range, which is as wide as those of cinema cameras, and V-Log/V-Gamut compatibility with popular colorimetry called “VariCam Look”. A variety of recording formats and modes including 4:3 Anamorphic mode, Slow & Quick Motion, 4K/60p interval shooting and 4K HDR are also provided.

The LUMIX S5 boasts high-speed, high-precision AF (Auto Focus) in both photo shooting and video recording that are made possible with advanced deep-learning technology featuring real-time detection of the subject’s type and features such as human eye, face, head and body.

The Lumix S5 will be available at valued channel partners in mid-September for $1999.99 for the body only and $2299.99 with a 20-60 kit lens.


Panasonic Launched L-Mount Interchangeable Zoom Lens for LUMIX S Series



Panasonic introduced a new interchangeable standard zoom lens, the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 (S-R2060) based on the L-Mount system for the LUMIX S Series Full-Frame Digital Single Lens Mirrorless Camera. Designed for professional use, the LUMIX S Series pursues uncompromising photographic expression with its high-quality cameras and lenses.

The new LUMIX F3.5-5.6 is a compact, lightweight standard zoom lens that covers from ultra-wide 20mm to standard 60mm focal length for versatile use including landscape photography. The wide viewing angle makes it easier to shoot indoors where space is limited and stunning close-up capability of 5.9 inches / 0.15m (maximum magnification 0.43x) supports still life photography. The new LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 also ensures smooth, high quality video recording because of a mechanism that suppresses focus breathing, which can be an issue in interchangeable lenses designed for still image photography.

With 11 elements in 9 groups, the use of aspherical lenses and 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses effectively suppresses both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification. Astigmatism is also corrected with these aspherical lenses, achieving high resolving performance. Furthermore, a UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) lens achieves uniform image quality from the center to edges of the image while contributing to downsizing of the lens unit.

With its compact, approximately 12.3 oz / 350g of light weight, the LUMIX S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 features stunning mobility. The rugged dust/splash resistant design withstands use under harsh conditions even at 14°F / -10°C for high mobility. In addition, a fluorine coating on the front element repels water and oil and prevents them from attaching. The filter diameter is 67 mm, with a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm.

The LUMIX S 20-60mm lens will be available at the end of July for $599.99.


Panasonic Introduced AW-UE100 4K 60P Pan/Tilt/Zoom Camera



Panasonic announced the introduction of the AW-UE100 integrated pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) camera, which supports a wide variety if IP transmission protocols, including high-bandwidth NDI, high-efficiency NDI®|HX and Secure Reliable Transport (SRT).

This new PTZ camera with newly-designed direct drive motor for smooth pan and tilt movement offers installation flexibility, low noise and high-resolution image capture, and will facilitate high-quality live remote and studio production in broadcast, staging, corporate, sports and house of worship applications.

The AW-UE100 features a 1/ 2.5-type 4K MOS sensor to produce stunning UHD 4K/60p video and offers a wide variety of interfaces including 12G-SDI, HDMI and IP. For capturing images in tight spaces to large venues, the UE100 has exceptional capabilities. A wide-angle lens with a horizontal angle of view of 74.1 degrees enables enables a wide area to be shot from a limited installation space, and its 24x optical zoom maintains high image quality at high zoom rations, permitting shooting large indoor spaces.

For low latency, live video transmissions, the AW-UE100 offers high-bandwidth NDI for transmitting 4K/60p video at speeds of approximately 250 Mbps and for transmitting full HD video at approximately 100 Mbps, all over a single LAN cable. It also offers a high-efficiency, low bandwidth NDIIHX to enable video transmission at low bitrates. Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) maintains stability when transmitting high-quality video, even in unstable network environments; and its RTMP/RTMPS function provides direct streaming via a single cable to live broadcasting services such as YouTube Live and Facebook Live.

Its FreeD output connection with AR/VR system and allows camera tracking information (pan/tilt/zoom/focus/iris) to easily build system without an encoder. The inclusion of a Direct Drive mechanism with roll compensation improves stillness and quietness pan/tilt operations.

The AW-UE100 will be available in both black and white versions in third quarter 2020, with pricing to be announced.


Panasonic Introduced AK-HC3900 HD HDR Studio/Field Camera System



In an expansion to its AK series studio/field camera line, Panasonic has announced the cost-effective AK-HC3900GJ/GSJ 1080p HDR studio camera system, which will be upgradable to native 4K 60p/50p. The new HC3900 follows in the footsteps of the company’s AK-HC3800, a model that has defined high-quality professional systemization and cost-efficient production for close to a decade.

Improvements distinguishing the AK-HC3900G include a full simultaneous HDR/SDR feature set, expanded multi-format capability (1080: 59.94p, 59.94i, 50i, 29.97PsF, 23.98PsF, 720: 59.94./50p) and future optional upgrade to 4K 60p/50p production. The AK-HC3900GJ/GSJ captures raw image from an internal 4K imaging system to deliver its stunning HD HDR images with ITU-BT.2020 wide color space. The Internal 4K capture also means that the future optional 4K system upgrade will yield a full 2000 TV lines horizontal resolution.

The AK-HC3900GJ/GSJ achieves a high sensitivity of F10 at 59.94Hz (2,000 lx) and a S/N ratio of 62 dB. The camera offers a built-in motorized ND filter.

The new cost-effective AK-HCU250PJ/PSJ/EJ/ESJ camera control unit (CCU), in combination with the new AK-HRP250GJ remote operation panel (ROP), will connect the high-grade uncompressed video and control to the camera head via optical fiber or utilize SMPTE Hybrid cable to provide camera power as well. The new CCU includes all the system features of the HC3800 along with simultaneous output of HDR/SDR, and the HC3900’s expanded multi-format capability and 4K upgrade path. New features include 3G trunk and 3G prompter functions. The new ROP now includes PoE power (no power supply required) for easy installation.

Both the CCU and the ROP are equipped with SD card slots, which can be used for storing various settings or upgrading firmware. Camera operators will have a choice of two electronic viewfinders, either the AK-HVF100GJ nine-inch or AK-HVF75G seven-inch LCD color models.
The AK-HC3900GJ/GSJ, AK-HCU250PJ/PSJ/EJ/ESJ and AK-HRP250GJ will be available in the fourth quarter 2020, with pricing to be announced.


Panasonic Introduced LUMIX GH5s C4K Mirrorless Camera



Panasonic has introduced the new LUMIX GH5s C4K mirrorless camera. It is a professional grade camera that offers over 29 LUMIX and LEICA compact lens options built in the next-generation (ILC) interchangeable lens camera standard [Micro Four Thirds] pioneered by Panasonic.

It’s “mirrorless” design enables the high performance, durability, mobility and low light gathering needed for professional cinematic and anamorphic 4K video production. The LUMIX GH5s comes installed with HDR Hybrid Log Gamma and Panasonic’s V-logL along with professional grade exposure tools like: Time Code sync, Waveform, Vector Scopes and programable Zebra patters.

The LUMIX GH5s supports important recording features like 14bit RAW for stills, dual native ISO, Panasonic XLR mic Adaptor support, and the return of multi-aspect capture.

The Panasonic LUMIX GH5s is estimated to ship in Feburary-March.
