Sennheiser Launched EK 6042 Two-Channel Camera Receiver at NAB 2016

Sennheiser EK 6042Sennheiser is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of headphones, microphones, and wireless transmission systems. They launched their brand-new EK 6042 slot-in camera receiver at NAB 2016. This is the first time it has been launched in the United States. (It was previewed earlier at IBC).

The EK 6042 two-channel camera receiver can work with analogue and digital Sennheiser transmitters or – a world first – a mix thereof, across a bandwidth of 184 MHz. It is an ideal partner to Sennheiser’s top-of-the-range Digital 9000 series and all analogue transmitters that feature HiDyn plus or HDX companders. The EK 6042 auto-configures for these transmitters via IR, saving set-up time and hassle for broadcast and filming crews who place a high value on sound quality and wireless reliability.

The EK 6042 will work with any current Sennheiser series from Digital 9000 in long-range mode, to the 5000/3000, and even the 2000 and evolution wireless G3, automatically identifying the transmitter via an IR link.

The camera receiver will choose its own operating mode accordingly, and automatically select the appropriate bandwidth and frequency in the UHF range between 470 and 654 MHz. Even older series transmitters such as the venerable SK 50 and SK 240 can be used, all that needs to be done is to enter the fixed transmitter frequencies via the receiver’s web interface.

Via its USB connector, the EK 6042 can be connected to PC or Mac platforms and configured via the browser. There is no need to install any software. For example, users can enter transmitter profiles and lists of managed or licensed frequencies, and also import or export data.

Two separately available adaptors (15-pin and 25-pin) ensure compatibility with all common camera brands. For example, the EK 6042 receiver is SuperSlot-compatable and works seamlessly with Sound Devices equipment. The same goes for ARRI, Panasonic (both Unislot) and Sony cameras.

For camcorders without an audio receiver slot, the EK 6042 can be camera mounted using a special backpanel adaptor, which is available as an accessory. The EK 6042 also features an auxiliary output on its top, which can be used for feeding audio externally to Sony cameras or for splitting the audio to any other device.

The new EK 6042 camera receiver will be available from June 2016. Visit Sennheiser and Neumann at booth N5729 at NAB 2016.

FilmLight Unveils Baselight 5.0 at NAB

FilmLight logoFilmLight develops unique color grading systems, image processing applications, and workflow tools that are transforming film and video post-production and setting new standards for quality, reliability and performance. They will unveil Baselight 5.0 at NAB 2016.

Baselight 5.0 is the new version of FilmLight’s high-performance flagship color finishing system. Baselight 5.0 introduces a radical step change in the way that professional colorists and other creative artists across the production process can add value and quality to productions – all boosted with over 50 new features.

The most notable new concept to improve color grading techniques is Base Grade. To give colorists natural, instinctual access to subtle grading, this creative tool moves away from the traditional lift/gamma/gain approach, to a set of controls which mimic the way the eye appreciates color: via exposure, temperature and balance. It gives the grading controls a more natural feel and results in smooth, consistent changes.

Baselight 5.0 also provides added HDR capabilities through color space ‘families’ – which hugely simplify the deliverables process for distinct viewing environments such as television, 4k projection and handheld devices. Baselight 5.0 also added gamut optimization to provide natural gamut mapping deliverables and avoid clipping when captured colors can’t be displayed on a cinema or television screen.

Baselight 5.0 streamlines workflows even further by introducing a completely new approach to remote grading, whereby Baselight workstations in different locations can collaborate. New software release Baselight 5.0 will be available for all BLG-enabled products from FilmLight, including the Daylight dailies and media management platform, as well as Baselight for Avid and Baselight for NUKE in the Baselight Editions range.

Visit FilmLight at booth SL3829 at NAB 2016, where they will be staging comprehensive demonstrations of their product range.

GatesAir Launches Flexiva LX Transmitter Range at NAB 2016

GatesAir Flexiva LXGatesAir is a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters. They are launching their Flexiva LX transmitter series for analog FM broadcasting at NAB 2016. The Flexiva Compact LX joins the Flexiva Compact Series at the lower power end of GatesAir’s radio transmitter family, providing customers with a wider range of options for analog and digital radio delivery.

Flexiva LX transmitters give FM broadcasters a budget-friendly option for upgrading to a more efficient transmitter design that boasts extensive capabilities, and replaces multiple separate boxes. The Flexiva LX offers a streamlined design focusing on FM analog broadcasts – a design attribute that lowers costs for the broadcaster – and retains the pertinent technologies that contribute to exceptional audio quality, high performance and operational efficiency found in all GatesAir Flexiva transmitters.

On the quality side, the Flexiva LX surpasses competitively priced analog-only FM transmitters via its digitally modulated exciter. Quality and performance is further enhanced through an integrated, powerful multiband digital audio processor with composite clipping and dynamic RDS. The latter eliminates the need for external systems to transmit dynamically-changing data related to song title, artist and other information.

Flexiva LX is ideally suited for translator applications with built-in FSK ID systems and an optional slide-in, DSP-based rebroadcast receiver card. Built-in web-based control, accessible via IP connectivity, gives engineers an option for monitoring and management of transmitter parameters from any networked location.

Like all Flexiva transmitters, the Flexiva LX series incorporates the latest high-efficiency technologies to reduce size, energy consumption and maintenance responsibilities. The compact 2RU footprint, which leverages high-density transistors and broadband amplification to reduce size and parts, fits comfortably into any transmitter building or enclosure, eliminating concerns for broadcasters with minimal RF plant real estate. Hot swappable power supplies simplify maintenance, allowing engineers to quickly service transmitters without affecting on-air performance.

The Flexiva LX series is available in power levels from 10 watts to 1kW, and will begin shipping this summer. Visit GatesAir at North Hall booth N2512 at NAB 2016.

RTW Will Showcase Entire Line of Loudness Solutions at NAB

RTW SoftwareWhen it comes to media production, “loudness” means more than just volume. These days, there are a number of different loudness targets for media, depending on a large number of factors. It can be a challenge for producers to keep track of all of the various requirements. That’s where software production company RTW comes in with its full range of loudness solutions.

RTW will be demonstrating its new Continuous Loudness Control (CLC) software at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas. This signal processing software allows users to constantly control and regulate to a given program-loudness value, along with a definable loudness range with minimal obstacles. The major advantage of CLC’s complex adaptive morphing algorithm is its realtime capability. The CLC algorithm “learns” during processing about the dynamic structure and intention of the sound signal and adopts its processing constantly to predict for what comes next. The software is also able to handle most common DAW applications and meets EBU-R128 and all major global loudness standard specifications.

RTW is also announcing the release of version 4.0 of its Loudness Tools and Mastering Tools software. The new version adds support for Mac OS X 10.11 and provides user requested features like a selectable 12thoctave RTA, cinema loudness (TASA and SAWA), and free scalable instrument size. In addition, the new version allows the Loudness Tools and Mastering Tools software to be operated as a stand-alone version. RTW will also present software version 1.5 for TM3-Primus and USB Connect. With this version, RTW adds support for Mac OS X 10.11 and supports the recently released standard changes in the EBU Loudness Recommendation (EBU R 128). Users can now select to read both Smax and Mmax values. Short-term loudness measurement is a parameter to characterize and control the loudness of commercials, promos, etc.. RTW offers both functions as a freely selectable feature. Users may turn on or off one or both measurements, as needed.

RTW will be demonstrating these products and more at Booth C2336 during NAB Show 2016.
