GoPro Released Quik 8.8

GoPro announced the release of Quik 8.8. Users can now take frame grabs from videos captured on their phones and will notice streamlined workflow for editing phone content in Quick. GoPro also released five new GoPro music tracks for Quik video edits.

The Frame Grab feature is one of the most popular editing tools in Quik today, so GoPro is excited to introduce an improved workflow for getting frame grabs from your phone’s videos. Currently, most smartphone users pull stills from a video by taking a screenshot, but with Quik’s Frame Grab tool:

You won’t lose quality: Quik’s Frame Grab tool saves images in the same resolution that your video was captured in. Taking a screenshot captures only the resolution of the phone’s screen size, not the videos.

It’s easy and precise to scrub to the exact frame: Quik’s scrubber has single-frame accuracy, allowing you to step forward or backwards with precision, to easily find that perfect moment.

There’s no cropping required: Quik’s Frame Grab tool matches the aspect ratio of the source video. Your phone’s native screenshot feature may require you to crop out additional UI elements.

It’s more efficient: Quik frame grabs deliver the same or better resolution in a smaller file size by saving frames as a JPG.

GoPro also made editing phone content faster by allowing users to access and edit content in their camera roll directly in Quik. Now, when users open a photo or video in the Quik “phone” media gallery, they can tap the pencil icon to reveal the Quik editing tools.

This Quik update also enables:

Five new GoPro Original music tracks that will automatically beat-sync to your video edits.

Auto-scanning of your GoPro camera for new footage and transfer it to the Quik app in just a few clicks (coming soon to Android)

Applying edits to all media within a draft (filter, color, text, duration and photo duration/volume.

Quik is free to download and use on a trial basis. Customers who want to unlock the app’s full capabilities can subscribe for just $1.99/month or $9.99/year. This will include unlimited cloud backup of your imported photos and videos at their original quality when the backup feature is released later this year.

GoPro Released Updates for GoPro MAX Camera

GoPro released an update for its award-winning MAX 360-camera that unlocks awesome new options for spherical video and photo capture. New features include the addition of 3k at 60 frames per second, Time Lapse Video and Time Lapse Photo, all in 360 mode.

The availability of 3K video at 60fps gives users more flexibility when filming things that are action-oriented or anything that simply would look cool in slo-mo, from speeding down a mountain to simply tossing a frisbee. This 2x slow-mo mode also allows for more time to pan and zoom around the frame while the action is happening so you can get the perfect shot.

Also new is the addition of 360 Time Lapse Video and Time Lapse Photo – features already available in the single-lens HERO mode and now brought to spherical capture. Time Lapse Video mode in 360 means users have more interval options for capturing longer periods of time – ideal for a sunset or a scenic drive.

Time Lapse Photo is an exciting addition because it enables hands-free 360 photo capture during activity. Prior to this update, a MAX user would have to press the shutter button to capture a 360 photo, but in Time Lapse Photo mode, creators can select a single photo from all the shots taken or use the footage to create an actual time lapse.

“3k60 video enables more diversity in what you can capture and play back, particularly in high action scenarios,” noted Abe Kislevitz, Creative Director of Media and also one of GoPro’s earliest employees. “Adding time lapse video and time lapse photo provides additional options for shooting activities or moments with a greater amount of creative control.”

An additional feature of the new update extends horizon leveling capability in single-lens HERO mode to TimeWarp and Photo modes, allowing for more freedom in mounting and shooting without the worry of horizon lines.

An integral part of the MAX experience is the GoPro App – a one-stop mobile editing tool for 360 content that transforms footage into polished images and edits. The new firmware update allows for faster offload of MAX content to the GoPro App, which means you get to share more quickly.

“MAX completely redefines what you can do with a camera,” said GoPro Founder and CEO Nick Woodman. “We named it MAX because it takes just about every aspect of a GoPro and pushes it to the maximum, be it unbreakable video stabilization, unbelievably wide angle video and photos, or the ultra-creative effects you can achieve with the companion GoPro app. MAX has become my favorite GoPro of all time.”

GoPro MAX is a waterproof (16 feet / 5 meters) dual-lens GoPro that maxes out on versatility – it’s like having three cameras in one. GoPro and Quik Apps Combine for Awesome Mobile Editing Experience

GoPro announced its new GoPro app update, which integrates the best of the Quik video editing app into the GoPro app, and introduces a fresh visual design, improved storytelling tools, and enhanced filter capabilities, all powered by a revving new software engine. This is the first in a series of GoPro app updates designed to create a single app experience for mobile editing with all the utility functions for controlling your GoPro from your smartphone.

GoPro app users will immediately notice design updates, from a visual refresh and a more modern UI to a more intuitive navigation. But the real fun begins with the updates to the storytelling experience, with an improved QuikStory multi-clip workflow, which enables the GoPro app to better identify meaningful moments in your footage and suggest awesome story compilations of your photos and videos, automatically. These stories will include recently-shot GoPro content and users can also add any photo or video saved in the media library of their smartphone.

Another new capability of the GoPro app is the ability to mix and match filters in a single QuikStory. This update hands users the keys to more than 20 filter options and the license to apply multiple filter types within the same multi-clip video. The result is a highly-customizable editing experience with infinite creative options.

The GoPro app update offers additional creative flex by removing draft limitations of the previous editing model. Now your QuikStory video will remain in an always-editable format so you can go back and make changes at any time. This new functionality is a critical improvement from the previous Quik pass-through workflow, providing GoPro app users with a more powerful way to manage their media and update their edits on-demand.
