Canon Introduces their First Full-Frame Cinema Camera



Canon announced the EOS C700 FF, the company’s first full-frame cinema camera.

At the heart of the camera is a novel Canon-developed CMOS image sensor having a total of 5952 (H) x 3140 (V) photosites with a digital cinema 17:9 aspect ratio, which gives it the same image circle size as the full frame EOS 5D camera series. This supports a wide range of shooting options.

Available in both PL and EF Mount, the EOS C700 FF provides users with the same outstanding performance, operation and modular design as the EOS C700 (released in December 2016). The camera is being shown publicly for the first time at the Canon booth (C4325) at the NAB Show 2018 in Las Vegas from April 9-12.

The EOS C700 FF is capable of ProRes and XF-AVC internal recording up to 4K to CFast cards. With the optional Codex CDX-36150 recorder, the EOS C700 FF is capable of recording 5.9K RAW up to 60 frames per second. When oversampling 5.9K in 4K/UHD recording, morié is suppressed and noise graininess improved, resulting in higher quality video compared to 4K image capture. The EOS C700 FF also has a wide array of 3K/UHD/HD recording options, including recording up to 168 fps in 2K RAW in Super 16mm (crop) mode.

The camera includes Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DAF) technology (EF mount only), and has an impressive dynamic range of 15 stops. Other key features of the EOS C700 FF camera system include Canon Log 2 and 3, Slow/Fast Motion Recording, IP Streaming and support for ACES, SMPTE ITU-R BT.2100 (HDR) and User LUTs.

The rugged magnesium body was built with rounded edges and semi-circular sides behind the lens mount that hint at the Canon Cinema design legacy. The EOS C700 FF can be equally comfortable handheld, shoulder-mounted, on a tripod head, steadicam, gimbal rig, crane or car mount. An optional professional grade OLED HD electronic viewfinder (EVF-V70) offers additional versatility. The camera is also compatible with a variety of lens configurations including anamorphic and B4 (with the optional MO-4E adapter).
